Till early part of 2004 or latter part of 2003, most of the Indians applied EB3 very few applied EB2. After 2004, it was reverse. I doubt any one appled EB3 in 2005 0r 2006.
If EB3 stays continously in 2001 and EB2 in 2004 (there is 3 year difference in cutoff date between EB2 and EB3 now), the guys with EB3 PD 2002 and 2003 will convert to EB2 by applying new 140 to transfer PD. This flow will balance the cut-off dates. Eventually it will reach a common ground or a break-even point.

I just don't understand why people who suffer so much from the whole waiting would not contribute. If one day, IV core members decide to close this organization and go on with their lives, I would like to know how those people who have not contributed feel.
The economic theory, "inferior purge the good" works here. Without sufficient "good" individual, we will eventually be out of this game! So to those who have not contributed yet, do you want to see the disorganization of IV? Do you want to become a group for which no one would speak up for you? Do you want to wait desperately and endlessly for your GCs? Do you want to continue to work like a slave and feel worried about travelling outside US?... If not, please contribute!!!

Rep.Darell Issa (NY) has introduced a bill to end the Diversity Lottery program and give the 55k visas to EB applicants with advanced US Degrees. This is a pretty exciting development (at least to me).
I think this is a great starting point that we should all jump on to clear EB backlogs.

Here is the reality: The thread is 2 years old and we have not had a group of motivated folks who could commit both time and money for this. In the last 2 years thousands have read this thread and have got greencard, but after getting greencard most people have different priorities in life. Writing posts on the forum asking IV to work on it will not get anything done on this issue. Nobody else will do anything unless those who seriously want to work on it commit their time and money for it.
They need to be going to fund raisers of lawmakers and contributing to election campaigns etc as a first step to lobbying. We need to see IV green card and citizen members doing this more regularly anyways to help others in line behind them and get more politically active.

If some green card holders seriously want to work on this issue, the first thing they need to do is form a team. Commit for a long term effort. This is not going to be an effort for a few month or days but will take several years. After you form a team, the next task would be gather as many people as you can who want to work on this issue and wish to meet lawmakers. You will also need start-up money to work on this effort. This effort is not as simple as fixing green card backlogs. If we are thinking working on this effort will be as simple as writing emails, then it will not be worth spending time. Be prepared to personally go and meet lawmakers in both your area and DC every couple of months. IV core team has been making trips to DC every month for past 4 years and only then we have been able to bring our issue in focus.
Citizenship rule change would change the INA and would require lot of support from H1B community, Greencard holders and citizens. It would require lot of funds too. Be ready to contribute your own funds (not hundreds but more than that to start) to run advocacy tasks. IV site is just a platform with a web-forum, but the real work that costs money is daily advocacy operations. Running is site is not expensive. Once the effort gains momentum, you can raise from IV forums from other Greencard members as a separate pool just like we did for FOIA.
At this time IV does not have the bandwidth or resources to work on this issue. Our primary focus is fixing greencard backlogs so that our members are out of the Greencard Queue. We started this organization for this purpose and we wish to finish what we started before we take on any new effort. Even though some core team members have Greencards, we are all committed to work on Greencard backlogs and will not work on other agenda items in our limited time. It will have to be a parallel team within IV that can work on this issue. IV team can guide as needed but we simply cannot divide our limited time and resources on a new effort.

I fully second Pappu's comment as the current IV core leadership does not have time/$$ to spend on Citizenhip. Getting GC for all of us has and should be the first priority. I thought i was the oldest, but someone got a GC this week after 16 yrs wait. my first attempt was in 1998 sept (never filed and sat in the lawyers office for 6 months) while i was working hard. Second went into NY DOL (2001) and after 4 yrs my company shut down - labor was in backlog center. Last attempt started in 2005. Aug 11th it will be 15 yrs. Not sure what i am doing here or why i am clinging on to this. Hanging in the same field, no growth and no enthu. Most of my friends put up their citizenship oath taking pics in facebook or are back in india

They ask for them as they need them, and there is also some per-month, per-quarter rationing that goes on. Based on that they pick up and approve applications and keep using up visa numbers. They are supposed to pick up applications in order of PD, but do so in a mix of PD/RD. When they get to an applicant who is otherwise approved but they are out of visa numbers for this month, they pick the following 1st, 8th, 15th or 22nd as the cutoff date.
Dates are most likely not moving because:
- they have reassigned everyone to do receipting (as they mentioned in their FAQ)
- some dates in current VB (esp for EB3) have been pushed so far back, that they probably dont have readily approvable applications (preadjudicated)
- they are waiting for a complete tally of July VB filings to get an idea of how to move the dates

they fall prey to the so called " DESI consulting companies " just as a last option and the moment they get a good offer they jump and also attending a US/Masters degree program for 2 yrs cant be a justification for "GOOD COMM SKILLS" I have seen MS guys talkin in vernac accent and I have no way of telling who is on h1b or a MS person "

I applied my EAD Renewal on April 5th. I have receipt with me but my EAD is not approved. Right now I don't have any other option other then EAD. I am little bit worried. Please let me if anyone on the same board. as well pls let me know and what are my options. EAD is going expire on end of July.

There maybe actions such as sending emails etc. However we would not be able to open a public action item unless we can have thousands of our members willing to participate in a grassroots action item. This survey intends to understand the needs of our membership for this provision and collect grassroots information.
The fact is we have a dedicated group of volunteers (and we need more) who have been trying their best to spread the message about this initiative so that a strong grass-roots support can be created leading up to launch of the public action items. So far we have around 1100 people who have responded. Based on quick calculations carried out using PERM data, it is estimated that there are at least 60K-70K EB applicants waiting to file I-485/EAD/AP (this is a very conservative estimate..the actual number could be much more). Grass-roots initiatives require time and patience and we request maximum number of impacted folks to participate actively.

If someone is responsible for the current state of affairs in the H1B area , It is Indian firms . The H1B1 was started in 'GOOD FAITH ' by United States to help people from "all over the world" to come in and work in the US , but large Indian IT houses have overexploited these loopholes so much that we are currently in this sorry state of affairs .

Agreed. But also please note that there is nothing called "GOOD FAITH". Just making a law is enough. It is US INS responsibility to ensure no one (mostly Indian IT companies and small companies in US operated from bedrooms, not basement or garage!! :) those created in garage are HP and GOOGLE) can exploit it. So blaming TCS and WIPRO and INFY and PATNI is not enough!! If we don't protect our house and thief exploits that to rob us that is our fault. This holds true for US INS too. Agreed. But also please note that there is nothing called "GOOD FAITH". Just making a law is enough. It is US INS responsibility to ensure no one (mostly Indian IT companies and small companies in US operated from bedrooms, not basement or garage!! :) those created in garage are HP and GOOGLE) can exploit it.
