Recently I�ve read letters from Khabar readers complaining about the service and performance at the Indian Consulate in Houston, Texas. So, when I found out that the Consulate had cancelled (on a whim, it appeared!) publicly announced visa camps in the Atlanta area, I feared the worst. Canceling publicly announced visa camps and not even informing the Indian media in the area or the very organizations that help administer them seemed like the height of disregard by the Consulate for their clients.
The next day I learnt that the Consulate had outsourced the visa processing service to a professional company. Not knowing what to make of it, I was still nervous as I had less than a month to go (I was counting on the visa camp that got cancelled). Thankfully, my experience turned 180 degrees when I began my application process from the link provided on the Consulate�s website for their visa services contractor.
After filling out the form online, the system gave me an ID #. I sent my form and documents by overnight delivery and kept my UPS tracking number handy?just in case! To my surprise, the very next day I received an email acknowledging receipt of the application and an assurance that it�d be processed right away. I was still not convinced that it could be going so smoothly, so the next day I went to the link they sent me to track the progress of my application, and sure enough there were fresh updates on it informing me the status of the application. Exactly a week from the day I mailed the application, I received another email saying my passport/visa had been dispatched back to me, along with the shipping company�s tracking number.
I was thrilled with the speed and professionalism of the whole process and would like to compliment the Consulate in taking this most effective step of partnering with a quality visa service provider.

I am having hard time procuring a Non-availability of Birth record certificate(NAC) from my home city of Delhi. Is there a way around this? I do have affidavits from my parents.
This NAC is holding up my application. Can we submit the document that you get in 10th grade with date of birth instead of the NAC. The NAC process takes a month or so, Police check...local magistrate orders the local municipal corporation et al.
Any suggestion will be greatly appreciates. Sorry if this post is in the wrong thread.

I live in Los Angeles and sent my paper-based application to Nebraska. it reached on May 01 but no reciept or check cashed yet.
I know After reading this forum that I should have mailed to Phoenix lockbox instead on Nebraska service center.
Anyone in the same boat?. Do i need to file again or wait for USCIS to forward it to Phoenix lockbox.

The USCIS will send you a summons for your fingerprints. You will have to go to wherever they mandate. The fingerprints only have a fifteen month validity.
The medical exams are usually a two day event. One day to do the exams and then they write up the report when they get your blood work results from the lab.
While you are waiting you can work on developing the patience of Job.
You must arrange a Birth Certificate from your country if you do not have one. Sometime it could take a while.

Though I love the recent forum posts being displayed alongside the content on the home page, I think it's also a drag on the resources and takes down the main site at times because of issues with the Forums/DB.
We're all (mostly) techies.... we should be able to fix this and deliver higher SLAs for our web site...
Available to contribute and volunteer if required for this, as the core already knows. :)

Regarding finding the bottom, follow this thumb rule for now:
You would not see any recovery of any sort in economy or housing until and unless you see a turn around in financials. So just closely follow them. Right now turn around in financial companies and banks is no where in picture.
I guess that's a good indicator, yes. In any case, I have no plans in buying a house in the nearer term even if I get my green card. I already got a nice, large apartment in India which I could very, very easily afford 3-4 years back :) Now, even that is unaffordable.:D
Considering the layoffs that are looming large, I don't even know what the subsequent quarters have in store for me. Forget buying a house in the US, I would glad if I can survive this terrible downturn. All the blue chips are laying off. MSFT laid off 5k, something which wasn't done in three decades.

Are you kidding. Kennedy is nothing like Lofgren. He only cares about illegals and thinks that legals have no issues at all. Once the illegals are out of the equation, he couldn't care less about what happens to legals.
I can bet my money that he most likely doesn't even know about this visa bulletin fiasco and wouldn't care even if he did knew.
Where is famously liberal "lion" Kennedy in all this. He is the counterpart to Lofgren. When you are the chair of the subcommitte on Immigration you are supposed to be a leader on these kind of issues. Really disappointing.

having PD current and Processing time current does not mean that the applicant will get GC. the state department actually moves cutoff dates in the VB because USCIS is not productive enough (not processing applications on time) to use up all the available visas for that quarter or year and they are afraid that those visas will go to waste. so they move the cutoff date on the VB (make more people current) so Consular processing will have more applications to pull from and then approve more applications.
so now we have to have PD current processing time for that service center is current and also be lucky so an IO will pick up our application to be processed. (it is actually little depressing)

Enough is enough. I am ready to sign this.
I have 3 real names. All were working for Cognizant. One had 3 years of exp. Cooked up with 4 years of B.Tech and totalled it as 7 years. Came on L1 as PM and applied in EB1. He got GC in less than 1 year. Other 2 had real 7 years exp and got GC's in 8 months. All were working at Client's place and NOT intra company transfers.
I am not selfish. But I am sure this guy with 3 years exp may one day become a boss for any of us.

With this attitude and arrogance, I rarely think there would be motivation for anyone to do anything for IV.
I started discussion by asking , how can IV convince me that my donation is going to help, I got shot down by ARROGANT ******** and got all reds as if I care. I was planning on a charity/donation drive of my own to get some money for IV.
Know lot of consultants, who really dont know what to do with their miles with every one a executive airline status.
Already have 10+ people pledging Poker tournament from my poker group with their miles for Airlines and hotels. We are talking of a Million AA miles.
Indian restaurants(s) having a Immigration week where a dollar of each bill be given to IV.
I was even thinking of standing at Indian stores in Dallas to ask people to consider for IV cause, as long as I believed and hence was asking.
I was just getting started with so many ideas for my free time.
Good luck in what ever you do guys. Note that GC is not everything and note that I am still on extended H1, family on H1 and EAD never helped me. so assumption that EAD helped my life is baseless. Finally the much awaited SMS/e-mail came through (from TSC). My guess is USCIS (TSC/NSC/etc) is approving cases at random as long as PD is current. There is no logic to Filing date / Notice date and all that. I came on F-1 10 years back (08/03/00) and was current for 2 months in 08 with no luck..... Please be patient... I know it is been frustating after a long wait and at times to see GC get approved for folks with later PD and all that after all we are humans and feel why someone was choosen today and not me ...... hang in there and I wish u all get that magic e-mail.....

Although I used my lawyer to file my I-485 ( My date was current in June and I submitted all my papers to my lawyer on May 20th and actually it was filed on 27th June), I also prepared I-485/ead application myself over the weekend and when I compare this application with lawyer's, mine was more accurate because lawyer mad small mistake in my address.
Anybody who follow this thread can prepare the application by him/herself.
Both points above are very very true. That is, lawyers will make more mistakes then you and the forms are very very easy to fill specially based on info available in threads. It should not take more then 2 hours to fill the forms.
Please fill the forms on your own and send them for Jul 2 delivery.

EB3I dates never really crossed 2001 after the JUL 07 drama which screwed all EB3 in my opinion.
1) USCIS never looked at those cases which got ported out. So if they try to process cases in 2002 they might end up finding lesser cases needing approval than they actually counted, could be bcoz of porting or people who gave up and left the country. USCIS is auto porting the date if you have old labor and i140, I know few friends who got GC like that.
2) At this pace EB2 will be current by mid next year, once it is processing time for 485 is at least 4 months which will fall into 2012, so the same huge number of spill will come to EB3 ROW. If the spill over is too much USCIS may consider spilling it to worst retrogressed countries.
-ve aspect: If USCIS starts doing quarterly spill over this may not happen. So as per my logic USCIS will start doing quarterly spill soon.
3) The as&***s who decided to change the spill to vertical might get bitten by a mad donkey or a dog and might change it back to the old model. I don't see any &&)) why all the spill has to go vertically from 2007, bcoz we irritated USICS or DOS by kissing their weak spots.
4) As per my Karma or belief model whatever IV does, hurts EB3 more. I don't think any admin fix will fix the vertical spill or recapture.
Good luck EB3 i guys and try to keep ur frustration levels to LOW.

And no one with sane mind is going to file EB3, we'll only see EB2 in most cases. Also everyone whoz waiting to file 485 now have got enough US experience to be eligible for EB2. I doubt, even with spillover, if EB2-I will become current even by 2014.
EB2 are more skilled by definition than EB3, and hence the priority for EB2. When we all applied under EB3 (or erred by attorneys), we knowingly filed under EB3. Simple.

I have a question regarding an appeal I did a year ago for a rejected LC.
I have an approved LC and I-140 on an entry level position (EB3) with my company. after I got a promotion to a senior position that requires a masters degree but with a smilar job description but more senior and supervisory responsabilities with the same company. after promotion, I filed for a new LC (EB2) but it got rejected because DOL thinks it is the same position as the already approved LC. my company and I wrote a letter as an appeal on Sep 2006 within 30 days from rejection of LC to BALCA explaining that new position requires a masters degree and it is a senior position with more supervisory duties. as of today, almost a year later, we haven't heard anything regarding DOL (BALCA) decision on my appeal. is anybody in the same situation?? what should I do next?? also I read somewhere that DOl might revoke the already approved LC EB3 after I filed a second LC for EB2 with the same employer. can DOL revoke the first LC EB3 after I have an approved I-140?? please help. I have an approved LC and I-140 on an entry level position (EB3) with my company. after I got a promotion to a senior position that requires a masters degree but with a smilar job description but more senior and supervisory responsabilities with the same company. after promotion, I filed for a new LC (EB2) but it got rejected because DOL thinks it is the same position as the already approved LC. my company and I wrote a letter as an appeal on Sep 2006 within 30 days from rejection of LC to BALCA explaining that new position requires a masters degree and it is a senior position with more supervisory duties. as of today, almost a year later, we haven't heard anything regarding DOL (BALCA) decision on my appeal. is anybody in the same situation?? what should I do next?? also I read somewhere that DOl might revoke the already approved LC EB3 after I filed a second LC for EB2 with the same employer. can DOL revoke the first LC EB3 after I have an approved I-140?? please help. I just called them now. I was lucky enough to talk to the operator. She said I should be getting it in a week. I guess they have a back log. She couldn't tell me anything else. BTW my application was received on Sep 11th. Money order was cashed on Sep 23rd. Still in process not shipped yet. I called 713-626-2148 and pressed 1 then 9 and when it asked for voice mail or operator I pressed 0 for operator. I kept pressing 0 until someone answered.
